The rapid shift towards a fully digitalised Europe is changing the way we work, learn, take part in society and lead our everyday lives. Europe can only catch these opportunities if its people develop the right digital skills, competences and have access to the digital infrastructure.

Digital transformation is an opportunity meant to benefit everyone. Fostering an open and democratic society, enabling a sustainable economy, developing trustworthy technology and opening new opportunities for businesses are among the main outputs.

The Commission has proposed a Path to the Digital Decade, a concrete plan to achieve the digital transformation of our society and economy by 2030. Among other things, digitalisation offers many new opportunities on the European marketplace, where more than 500,000 vacancies for cybersecurity and data experts remained unfilled in 2020.
