Project Description

At Youthability through our projects and our communication with youth workers and young people we have noticed the strong concern that prevails regarding the accidents that take place on the roads. The “Are we on the SAFE page? Driving to responsibility among youth” (PAGE) project aims to tackle the high number of road fatalities among young people and contribute to the EU’s Vision Zero strategy, which targets zero fatalities and serious injuries on European roads by 2050.

The project will promote safer driving habits and foster responsibility among youth drivers, addressing the fact that more than 25,000 people die each year on European roads, with a significant proportion being young drivers.* This highlights the need for effective educational tools to instill safe driving behaviors in the next generation.

Impact

The PAGE project delivers a lasting impact by equipping youth workers with an innovative e-learning tool that combines educational content, practical exercises, and digital simulations to promote responsible driving among young people. By addressing the high rate of road fatalities among drivers aged 16-24, the project directly supports the EU’s Vision Zero strategy of eliminating road deaths by 2050.

Its open-access resources reach youth workers, driving academies, traffic police, and road safety organisations across Greece, Bulgaria, and Belgium, ensuring knowledge is transferred to young drivers in diverse settings. Through multiplier events, a sustained online platform, and translated materials, PAGE fosters a cross-border community committed to safer roads. Ultimately, it strengthens partner capacities and drives a cultural shift toward responsible, healthier driving behaviours throughout Europe.

Our Role

The Square Dot Team (TSDT), the Belgian partner, brings extensive expertise in road safety and green mobility, using peer-to-peer methods and virtual reality simulators to engage youth. Within PAGE, TSDT leads the development of Module 1, grounding the educational content in real-world data and best practices. It also takes the lead on the E-learning Tool Development, compiling the three modules into a single, cohesive digital platform.

Additionally, TSDT hosts the Final Meeting in Belgium to evaluate outcomes and plan sustainability. Drawing on its strong presence in European projects, TSDT ensures the materials are high-quality, engaging, and effective in promoting safe driving across Europe.
